Description

Native wheat starch is a fine, white powder derived from the ground wheat grain. It consists mainly of starch, a polysaccharide used by the plant as a storage form of energy. Native wheat starch is widely used in various industrial and food applications because of its binding, gel-forming and thickening properties.

Characteristics

  • Grade: Food.
  • Melting Point: The melting point of starch is generally not fixed, but starch begins to gel at 60-70°C in water.
  • Hygroscopic: It is able to absorb moisture from the air.
  • Viscosity: Native wheat starch has a viscous solution when incorporated into hot water.

Native wheat starch is applied in various ways, for instance:

  • Sometimes applied as a stabilizer in creams and lotions.

Used as a binder and thickener in the production of paper and textile coatings.

Used in adhesives, coatings and bioplastics.
