Applications
Potassium bromide is applied in various ways, for instance:
1. Chemical Industry
Potassium bromide is used in the chemical industry as a raw material for other bromide compounds. In the oil and gas industry, it is used in drilling fluids because of its high Density and stability under harsh conditions.
2. Analytical chemistry & Laboratories
KBr is an essential material in FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) spectroscopy. Thanks to its transparency in the infrared spectrum, it is used to compress samples into transparent IR pellets.
3. Optics
Because of its transparency in the infrared spectrum, KBr is also used in lenses, prisms and windows for optical equipment, especially in spectroscopy devices.
4. Photography
In analog black-and-white photography, potassium bromide is used to form silver bromide in light-sensitive emulsions.
